HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 6, 2016) – Daytona International Speedway was host to round nine of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Championship. The entire event was broadcast on Fox Sports One.
The Autotrader/Toyota/Yamaha Team has been challenged with injuries so far in 2016. Weston Peick has been struggling with a nagging arm issue for the past few weeks, and Phil Nicoletti went down in a violent crash last week in Atlanta injuring his knee. Justin Barcia, who has been recovering from thumb ligament surgery anticipates making his return to racing April 2 at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Peick transferred to the Main Event through Semi One, Nicoletti was the race winner in Semi Two earning a gate for the Main Event. Nicoletti began the Main Event in fourth position racing at the front of the field. He aggravated his knee on the tough Daytona course during the early laps and dropped back to 11th. At just about the halfway mark Nicoletti suffered a brief fall that relegated him to the rear of the pack. Peick started the Main Event mid-pack and finished 18th. Nicoletti was 21st at the checkers.
Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ont. will host round 10 of the 17-race series. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live beginning at 7:00 p.m. (EST).
