HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 28, 2016) – Round eight of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Championship took place at The Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga. 61,683 fans were on hand and Fox Sports One broadcast the race live.
Justin Barcia continues to recover from a thumb injury sustained just before the season opener and was in attendance signing autographs and greeting fans. Weston Peick transferred to the Main Event through Semi One. Phillip Nicoletti was collected in a crash early in Heat Race Two suffering a knee injury that resulted in a visit to the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit for treatment. He was unable to continue racing. Nicoletti’s status will be updated after a thorough evaluation and prognosis by Dr. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology.
At the start of the Main Event Peick did not get the start he would have liked logging in 14th after the conclusion of the opening lap. Over the ensuing 19-laps he raced in and just outside of the top-10 earning 12th at the checkers.
The next round of the series will be held at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. on March 5. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race beginning at 10:00 p.m. (EST).
